Reworld Reports Scale of Waste Diversion and PFAS Destruction

With 19 million tons of waste diverted from landfills last year, Florham Park-based Reworld is positioning its integrated thermomechanical treatment network as a primary alternative to traditional disposal. The company’s 2026 sustainability report underscores a shift toward high-heat destruction for hazardous contaminants like PFAS.

The report highlights the company's control over 70% of the total thermomechanical treatment capacity in the U.S., operating more than 90 facilities. A central pillar of this year's strategy is the launch of ReAssure, a service designed to destroy PFAS-containing waste at temperatures exceeding 1,100°C. According to company data, this method achieves 99% destruction efficiency at a scale 17 times greater than standard hazardous waste incineration.

Beyond specialized destruction, the company reported significant resource recovery figures, including 8.7 MWhe of renewable electricity and steam generated, alongside the recycling of 432,000 tons of metal. Tequila Smith, Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, noted that these outcomes are driven by scientific application rather than simple storage, emphasizing that the company’s model aims to turn waste streams into both environmental and economic value. The firm maintains a workforce that outperforms industry safety averages by 48% while continuing to expand its footprint in over 45 end markets.
