Narvinger, who joined the Stockholm-based telecommunications giant in 1997, brings three decades of experience spanning research, product management, and global sales. Since 2025, he has led the firm’s core Business Area Networks, having previously managed its cloud software division. Jan Carlson, Chair of the Board, cited Narvinger’s deep technical expertise and commercial record as the primary drivers for his appointment, viewing him as the ideal candidate to steer the company through the next stage of mobile connectivity.
Ekholm’s departure marks the end of a transformation period that began in 2017, when the company faced severe market pressure. Under his leadership, Ericsson pivoted toward becoming a global leader in communications infrastructure. To ensure a smooth transition, Ekholm will remain with the company as an executive advisor until June 15, 2027. Narvinger is set to officially assume the top role on October 1, 2026, inheriting a company currently positioning itself for the rise of physical AI.
