The camp operates across two hubs, McMurray and Mechanicsburg, providing sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a condensed, immersive look at utility operations. President Justin Ladner views the initiative as a strategic investment in the future workforce, positioning these sessions as a training ground for the next generation of industry leaders. Participants engage in facility tours, resume workshops, and networking sessions designed to demystify technical career paths.
Beyond high school outreach, the utility is scaling its professional pipeline through the Future Wavemakers Internship Program. This year, 16 college students are embedded within Pennsylvania American Water offices, working across departments ranging from engineering and finance to communications and safety. These interns tackle capstone projects that align their academic focus with the company's operational goals. By maintaining these programs alongside year-round community partnerships and school presentations, the company is actively attempting to secure a steady talent stream for the utility sector.
