Food Finder Launches Hyper-Local Surplus Sharing Platform

Every year, households discard tons of edible groceries simply due to shifting travel plans or over-purchasing. Based in Pensacola, the newly launched platform Food Finder aims to curb this waste by connecting neighbors through a digital marketplace, allowing residents to trade or gift pantry items instead of sending them to landfills.

The platform functions as a neighborhood-level hub where users post surplus items like produce, eggs, or pantry staples. Unlike large-scale donation centers, this service focuses on immediate, hyper-local exchanges. A resident preparing for a move or a vacation can list available goods, which neighbors can claim and retrieve, effectively diverting usable food from the trash while easing local grocery costs.

Founder Melissa Lazar describes the initiative as a practical response to the common dilemma of clearing out a refrigerator before a trip. By fostering these micro-exchanges, the startup seeks to replace the culture of disposal with a model of community resourcefulness. The platform is currently onboarding new users as it expands its network, positioning itself as a tool for both environmental conservation and neighborhood cohesion.
