Alphabet to Replace Verizon in Dow Jones Industrial Average

Alphabet Inc. is set to join the Dow Jones Industrial Average on June 29, 2026, marking a significant shift for the price-weighted index. The tech giant will displace Verizon Communications Inc., which currently holds a minimal influence on the benchmark due to its lower share price and market valuation.

The shuffle arrives as the index seeks to better reflect the modern U.S. economy. S&P Dow Jones Indices officials noted that Alphabet’s expansive portfolio—covering artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, and digital advertising—provides a more representative look at the current Communication Services landscape than Verizon’s traditional telecommunications focus.

Simultaneously, Honeywell International Inc. will maintain its position in the index following the spinoff of its aerospace unit. The parent company will continue under the name Honeywell Technologies Inc., while the newly independent Honeywell Aerospace Inc. will not be included in the DJIA. To maintain continuity during these adjustments, index managers will recalibrate the divisor on June 29, ensuring the changes do not distort the index’s performance tracking.
