Building on a $44.7 million preliminary contract awarded last December, this new project mandates that MDA Space handle the entire lifecycle of the satellite, from initial design and testing to launch and ground system integration. The hardware will be based on the company’s fourth-generation CHORUS technology, which provides all-weather, day-night surveillance capabilities.

This investment represents a significant portion of the federal government’s $1.012 billion RADARSAT+ portfolio, initiated in October 2023 to ensure uninterrupted satellite data coverage. Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space, noted that the data remains vital for Arctic surveillance, maritime safety, and disaster response. The satellite will be assembled and tested at the company’s Montréal facility, with the contract value officially entering the company’s fiscal backlog during the second quarter of 2026.
