The installation, situated alongside Apex’s existing Coldwater solar facility, will utilize the SolBank 3.0 platform. Canadian Solar is providing an integrated package that combines hardware with the EQ-S energy-management software to handle the 381-megawatt-hour capacity. This coordination allows the facility to capture solar generation during the day and release it precisely when grid demand spikes.

This deployment aligns with Michigan’s legislative mandate requiring utilities to integrate 2,500 megawatts of storage by 2030. With the state’s largest coal units slated for retirement through 2032, the need for reliable, dispatchable energy has become a central focus for developers. Canadian Solar expects to commence equipment deliveries in early 2027, with the facility reaching full commercial operation by the middle of that year.
