Marconi Technologies validates Archer system in Swedish field trials

Across a challenging 75-kilometre stretch between Enköping and Arboga, Marconi Technologies has successfully demonstrated its Archer troposcatter system to the Swedish Armed Forces. The June trials confirmed the hardware’s ability to sustain high-throughput connectivity in terrain where previous attempts at stable links had failed.

The five-day evaluation conducted with the Swedish defence materiel authority, FMV, showcased the Archer terminal’s capacity to function within the military’s existing mobile network infrastructure. By integrating directly with the Swedish Armed Forces' mobile network node, the system achieved data throughput speeds five to six times higher than historical benchmarks recorded on the same route.

Beyond connectivity, the trials emphasized rapid deployment capabilities. The hardware features automatic antenna alignment and a compact physical footprint, allowing a two-person crew to establish a beyond-line-of-sight link in under 20 minutes. According to Alain Cohen, CEO of Marconi Technologies, this efficiency is critical for satellite-denied or degraded environments where traditional infrastructure is unavailable. The Archer system, which also serves the U.S. Army, provides a tactical alternative for secure communications across distances exceeding 200 kilometres without reliance on satellite constellations.
