The donation will be divided among Save the Children, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and World Food Program USA. These organizations are deploying resources to address infection prevention, hygiene, and emergency food supplies in regions where health services have been crippled by years of underinvestment and recent global funding gaps.
Heather Reoch Kerr, the IRC’s Country Director for the DRC, noted that the grant provides essential support to navigate a complex environment where the outbreak is rapidly outpacing containment efforts. Barron Segar, CEO of World Food Program USA, emphasized that the aid is vital for transporting medical cargo and frontline responders, preventing the health crisis from escalating into a widespread hunger emergency. Meanwhile, Save the Children officials highlighted that children under 14 face the highest mortality risk, requiring immediate access to protection and basic care to curb the transmission of the virus.
