Ameren Earns International Accreditation for Economic Development

The International Economic Development Council has designated Ameren as an Accredited Economic Development Organization, placing the utility provider among a select group of 99 entities worldwide that have cleared a rigorous peer-review process evaluating structural, financial, and operational excellence in fostering regional business growth.

The accreditation process required Ameren to undergo a two-phase assessment, including a deep dive into internal documentation and an on-site evaluation of its staff and programs. IEDC President Nathan Ohle noted that the recognition validates the company’s technical expertise and commitment to professional standards. For Ameren Missouri, the honor highlights a collaborative approach to site readiness and regional partnerships, which Vice President Tara Oglesby described as a key driver for long-term job growth across the company’s service territory.

Ameren Illinois secured the credential through its integrated strategy for community engagement and business retention. The IEDC report specifically pointed to the effectiveness of the Ameren Site Acceleration Program (ASAP) as a leading industry practice. Eric Whitfield, director of economic development for Ameren Illinois, believes this validation provides a tangible edge when competing for corporate investment. By signaling high-level service capabilities to site location firms, the company aims to solidify its position as a primary partner for businesses looking to expand within the region. To maintain this status, the organization must undergo recurring reviews every three years.
