Roscoe Bartlett Donates $200,000 to Support Heartly House Facilities

To mark his 100th birthday, former Congressman Roscoe Bartlett has pledged $200,000 to establish a permanent building maintenance fund for Heartly House. The contribution secures the long-term integrity of the facilities that provide shelter and legal support to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking in Frederick County.

The donation creates a dedicated financial reserve for repairs and safety enhancements, allowing the organization to redirect its operational budget toward direct advocacy and counseling. By ensuring these physical spaces remain secure and functional, the gift reinforces the nonprofit’s ability to offer a stable environment for those transitioning out of crisis. Heartly House plans to dedicate its Legal Services Building in honor of the former congressman, acknowledging a legacy of public service that spans decades within the region.

Since 1979, the organization has operated as the primary resource in Frederick County for victims of power-based violence. Amy Benton, the director of development, noted that the maintenance fund transforms the donor's personal milestone into a generational investment for the community. Residents interested in participating in this initiative are encouraged to contact the organization directly to contribute to the fund in celebration of Bartlett’s centennial.
