The initiative focused on the optimization of seven air handling units within the 113,000-square-foot academic building. AQUIS deployed its proprietary SmartCoil technology on three of those units, providing the granular performance data necessary to verify energy savings and qualify for incentives under Pepco’s Energy Savings for Business program. Each unit achieved annual savings of 47,800 kWh, resulting in a reduction of 35.3 metric tons of carbon emissions.

Alex Schaub, superintendent of HVAC at the University of Maryland, noted that the data provided by the SmartCoil system served as a catalyst for broader efficiency efforts. By identifying previously unknown rebate opportunities, the university has been able to accelerate the funding of subsequent sustainability projects.
