Andover to Host New Destination for American Mahjong Enthusiasts

In a digital age dominated by screens, a new dedicated space is arriving in downtown Andover this August to foster tactile connection. The Hidden Parlor, a specialized venue for American Mahjong, aims to move the game out of private living rooms and into a curated, hospitality-focused social environment.

Located on Park Street, the facility spans 11 tables with capacity for 44 players, including two automatic shuffling units. Founding General Manager Heather Forrest Gagnon describes the project as a response to the growing desire for tangible, intergenerational experiences. Beyond standard play, the venue will host six-week leagues, beginner workshops, and a junior program for children aged 7 to 14.

The space departs from typical gaming halls by incorporating concierge-style amenities. It features quiet zones for remote work and lounge areas designed for conversation, alongside a boutique selling custom tiles and accessories. This infrastructure supports both scheduled, reservation-based play and casual gatherings. While acknowledging the historical roots of the game within Chinese and Jewish American cultures, the society focuses on providing a permanent, year-round hub for the regional community. With an active waitlist already established, the venue intends to operate six days a week upon launch, with plans to extend to daily service as demand increases.
