TotalEnergies, holding a 16.6% stake in the project alongside operator Sempra Infrastructure, will act as the sole offtaker during the facility's initial ramp-up. The company is set to receive 1.7 million tonnes per year of LNG for the next two decades. By leveraging existing regasification infrastructure at the site, the project has successfully optimized construction costs while establishing a direct route to Asian buyers.
"The start-up of ECA LNG, whose strategic location provides privileged access to Asian markets, strengthens the quality of our integrated LNG portfolio in North America," said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies. With a single-train capacity of 3.25 million tonnes per annum, the plant is designed to bypass traditional, longer shipping routes. Full commercial operations are expected to follow the project's substantial completion in summer 2026.
