Blue Earth Therapeutics launches Phase 1 trial for prostate cancer drug

The first patient has been dosed in a Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating Actinium (225Ac) rhPSMA-10.1, an experimental radiopharmaceutical designed to treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Sponsored by University College London, the study tests the safety and anti-tumor activity of this alpha-emitting therapy in patients with advanced disease.

The trial, conducted at University College London Hospital, centers on the company’s proprietary radiohybrid platform. By combining a PSMA-targeting molecule with actinium-225, researchers aim to deliver high-energy radiation directly to cancer lesions while sparing healthy tissue. This targeted approach is intended to cause irreparable DNA damage to malignant cells, providing a potential alternative for patients whose cancer has progressed following prior treatments.

Professor Gert Attard, director of the UCL Cancer Institute, noted that the trial is a critical step in refining dose selection and integrating alpha-emitting radionuclides into personalized treatment pathways. For Blue Earth Therapeutics, the development marks the second clinical candidate in its oncology pipeline, following an ongoing Phase 2 study of its lutetium-based therapy. Data from this initial phase will be used to characterize side effects and establish the therapeutic profile for future research.
