DEWALT Launches Autonomous Drilling Robot for Data Center Construction

Nineteen-hundred weeks of construction time saved across 26 projects: that is the metric DEWALT is leveraging to launch DALE, the world’s first fleet-capable, downward-drilling robot. Developed with August Robotics, the machine enters the market today as a direct response to the hyperscale race for faster data center deployment.

The robot, which debuted at the World of Concrete earlier this year, is designed to automate repetitive drilling tasks for server rack supports and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. During a year-long pilot program with a major technology firm, the system demonstrated drilling speeds up to 10 times faster than manual methods. Beyond velocity, the units achieved 99.97% accuracy across 230,000 holes, according to company data.

Bill Beck, President of Tools & Outdoor at Stanley Black & Decker, described the move as a transition from experimental pilot to full-market availability. The hardware features fast-swap batteries to facilitate continuous, around-the-clock operation. To streamline site handoffs, the robot integrates automatic dust extraction and AI-driven quality assurance, allowing mechanical and electrical contractors to begin installation work immediately after the drilling phase concludes.
