Corning Rides AI Infrastructure Boom to Beat Earnings Forecasts

A 65% surge in enterprise network sales, fueled by generative AI demand, has propelled Corning to a stronger-than-expected second quarter. The company reported net income of $559 million, significantly outpacing the $469 million recorded during the same period last year as specialized optical fiber becomes essential for hyperscale data centers.

Corning Rides AI Infrastructure Boom to Beat Earnings Forecasts

Revenue climbed 17% to $4.74 billion, comfortably exceeding the $4.63 billion consensus among analysts. Core earnings reached 78 cents a share, topping the 76-cent target set by FactSet. The optical-communications division served as the primary engine for this growth, expanding its total sales by 32% to $2.07 billion.

This performance marks a pivot for the glass and ceramics manufacturer, which is aggressively shifting its focus away from traditional telecom clients toward the infrastructure requirements of enterprise hyperscalers. Meanwhile, the solar segment saw a 90% revenue increase following equipment upgrades at its wafer facility, with management projecting improved profitability for that unit in the coming months.

Looking toward the third quarter, Corning anticipates core sales to hit a range between $4.9 billion and $5 billion. Projections for core earnings per share are equally optimistic, expected to rise 28% to between 85 cents and 89 cents, signaling that the company’s bet on AI-driven infrastructure is yielding immediate financial returns.
