Casey Wasserman is stepping away from the global sports and entertainment agency he founded 24 years ago, as Providence Equity Partners completes a competitive sale process to acquire his remaining stake. The deal marks a transition in ownership for the firm, now rebranded as THE•TEAM, heading into late 2026.

The transaction concludes a comprehensive bidding process that confirmed Providence’s long-term commitment to the agency. Having first invested in the business in 2022, the private equity firm plans to utilize the acquisition to accelerate both organic growth and strategic mergers and acquisitions across the sports, music, and entertainment sectors. Financial terms regarding the buyout of Wasserman’s interest remain undisclosed.

Following the close of the deal, expected in the second half of 2026, Michael Watts will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer. Watts, who has served as President since 2014 and has been with the organization since its 2002 inception, has overseen day-to-day operations since February. Davis Noell, Senior Managing Director at Providence, cited the firm’s continued belief in the rising demand for live experiences as a primary driver for the increased investment. Wasserman described the transition as the realization of his founding goal to build an entity capable of thriving beyond his direct leadership, noting that the agency now operates across 28 countries.
