The system features a high-speed electric motor integrated directly onto the turbo shaft. This setup eliminates traditional turbo lag by actively driving the compressor, providing 20 kW of continuous electrical power and peaking at 30 kW. Beyond performance, the unit captures excess exhaust energy, converting it into electricity for the vehicle’s high-voltage system instead of venting it through a wastegate.
This latest iteration of the 400-volt platform introduces remote power electronics, a design shift intended to solve packaging constraints in modern engine compartments. The system is engineered to withstand extreme operating conditions, including exhaust temperatures exceeding 1,000°C and rotational speeds reaching 145,000 rpm. By reducing backpressure and curbing fuel enrichment at high loads, the technology aids compliance with Euro 7, SULEV, and China National 6b emissions standards.
