PBF Energy Net Income Surges to $915 Million on Martinez Refinery Restart

PBF Energy reported a sharp turnaround in its second-quarter 2026 performance, posting $1.27 billion in operating income compared to $43 million during the same period last year. The results were bolstered by the successful May restart of the Martinez refinery and aggressive debt reduction efforts totaling over $1 billion.

The company’s financial recovery marks a significant shift from the previous year, with net income reaching $915 million, or $7.54 per share. Excluding special items, adjusted income from operations stood at $1.05 billion. A major contributor to this stability was the receipt of a $250 million insurance installment related to the February 2025 fire at the Martinez facility, bringing total unallocated insurance reimbursements to $1.25 billion to date.

CEO Matt Lucey emphasized that the company’s coastal refinery assets are well-positioned to capitalize on tight global supply and demand. Alongside the operational recovery, PBF Energy successfully reduced its net debt by more than 62% during the quarter by paying down asset-backed lending facilities and refinancing senior notes. Reflecting this improved financial position, the company declared a quarterly dividend of $0.275 per share, payable on August 28, 2026, to shareholders of record as of August 14.
