The current treatment paradigm, which relies heavily on conservative care and traditional surgical intervention, is undergoing a transition toward precision medicine. While nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and physical therapy remain the standard first-line strategies, these methods often address symptoms rather than the underlying disc degeneration. The shift is being driven by a robust clinical pipeline of next-generation solutions, including Stayable Therapeutics' STA-363 and SpinaFX Medical’s Triojection, which recently secured FDA Investigational Device Exemption for pivotal clinical trials.

Technological advancements are simultaneously lowering the barrier to effective care. Innovations in endoscopic spine surgery and image-guided procedures are reducing recovery times, while AI-driven diagnostics are helping clinicians better identify appropriate candidates for these interventions. As these regenerative therapies and decompression technologies mature, they offer a path to bridge the gap between initial conservative management and invasive surgery, particularly in the United States, which accounted for approximately 42% of the total market size in 2025.
