The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., anchored by a diverse schedule of dog-centric activities ranging from lure courses and games to the hallmark costume contest. This year’s event has already secured $149,000 in sponsorship funding, bolstered by support from companies including Solon Manufacturing Co., Embrace Pet Insurance, and SwiftPaws. Kenneth Clarke, executive director of Rescue Village, noted that while the festival has evolved into a regional staple, its core mission remains funding essential medical care, shelter, and rehoming services for animals in need.
This year’s official mascot, or "Alpha Dog," is Norman, a pet belonging to longtime board member Brian Greene. Norman’s likeness, rendered by cartoonist Jenny Campbell, will feature prominently in the event's branding. Beyond the staged attractions, organizers emphasize the community atmosphere, which includes a beer garden, food trucks, and live music.
