Nord Precious Metals Advances Gowganda Silver Tailings Recovery

Nord Precious Metals Mining Inc. has officially entered the pre-submission consultation phase with Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. By securing direct regulatory feedback on its silver tailings recovery program in the Gowganda Silver Camp, the company has transitioned from asset consolidation to active project permitting.

The July 21 meeting between Nord’s technical team and ministry officials marked a critical shift in the company’s development strategy. Rather than a preliminary inquiry, the session provided specific mandates for the recovery project, including requirements for a site-specific Environmental Compliance Approval for sewage works and a Permit to Take Water. The ministry confirmed the consultation framework in writing the following day, establishing a defined schedule for project deliverables.

To manage this regulatory pathway, Nord has deployed a specialized team led by accountable coordinator Alex Kuhnert. Four distinct workstreams—encompassing project descriptions, site mapping, baseline environmental data, and geochemical recommendations—are currently underway. This operational shift leverages Ontario Regulation 463/24, a framework designed to streamline the recovery of metals from legacy tailings. The regulation provides an 80-day review pathway for complete applications, a process recently validated by the successful permitting of the Hollinger Tailings Project in Timmins earlier this year.

While the permitting process advances, the company is preparing an updated NI 43-101 mineral resource estimate for the Gowganda property, expected in the second half of 2026. This document will serve as the technical foundation for upcoming economic studies. Nord’s strategy focuses on using the lower-capital modular recovery program to generate cash flow, potentially reducing the need for equity financing while funding broader exploration across its district-scale holdings.
