Commercial EV Charging Moves From Perk to Core Infrastructure

Ninety-four percent of commercial decision-makers now classify electric vehicle charging as essential infrastructure, marking a departure from viewing the technology as a secondary amenity. A new industry survey from Irvine-based manufacturer BTC POWER indicates that reliability and long-term performance have officially eclipsed low-cost procurement as the primary drivers of market growth.

The survey of over 200 industry leaders reveals a sector shifting toward maturity, with 97% of organizations planning to increase their capital investment in charging hardware. While early adoption was largely driven by sustainability goals, the current landscape is defined by a competitive mandate: 99% of respondents now view charging access as a distinct advantage for their business operations. This shift has forced a change in vendor selection criteria, where downtime and maintenance costs are increasingly scrutinized over initial installation prices.

Despite ongoing debates regarding federal policy, 90% of operators remain confident that government incentives—including NEVI funding and tax credits—will continue to underpin market expansion. Currently, environmental targets and consumer demand serve as the leading motivations for deployment, each cited by 46% of organizations. As the industry scales, demand is gravitating toward full-service providers capable of managing the entire lifecycle of a charging program, with 60% of decision-makers favoring comprehensive partnerships over simple hardware procurement.
