Bausch Health CEO Appio Joins Bausch + Lomb Board in Shake-up

Thomas J. Appio, CEO of Bausch Health, has joined the board of directors at Bausch + Lomb as part of a broader leadership transition. The appointment, effective August 5, 2026, signals a tightening of oversight by the parent company, which maintains an 87% stake in the eye-health subsidiary.

The board transition also welcomes three new independent directors: Robert J. Chersi, Dr. Laurence E. Paul, and Barbara J. Trebbi. They replace outgoing members Steven Collis, Karen Ling, Thomas Ross, and Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach. According to the company, these departures were voluntary and stemmed from no underlying policy disputes or conflicts with the board.

Bausch Health initiated the request for these changes to align the board composition with its significant ownership interest. Appio emphasized that he intends to use his seat to support the subsidiary's long-term strategy and drive shareholder value. As the primary shareholder, Bausch Health continues to exert influence over the direction of the eye-care firm, which operates as a critical asset within its broader pharmaceutical portfolio.
