Electric bicycles are fundamentally altering the tire industry’s landscape. Because e-bikes carry more weight and operate at higher speeds than traditional cycles, their tires wear out 30% to 40% faster, creating a steady cycle of replacement demand. This shift is particularly pronounced in China, where millions of units are now subject to strict safety specifications like GB 17761-2024, mandating more robust, high-performance components.
Beyond durability, the market is undergoing a significant value shift toward premium technology. Tubeless-ready systems, which command higher price points and require specialized maintenance products like sealants and valves, are becoming standard in mountain and gravel cycling. Lucas Harrison, lead automotive and mobility analyst at Radial Insights, noted that the industry is experiencing a structural evolution as premium technologies and urban mobility programs move into the mainstream. Government-backed infrastructure projects in Europe—including substantial funding in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark—further cement this trend by encouraging year-round, high-mileage cycling as a primary mode of transportation.
