CytoSorbents Targets Cash Flow Breakeven Amid Cost-Cutting Drive

CytoSorbents Corporation, a developer of blood purification technology, reported $9.6 million in second-quarter 2026 revenue, matching the previous year’s figures. Despite flat top-line growth, the Princeton-based firm significantly improved its operating efficiency, cutting its quarterly operating loss by 27% to $2.6 million through aggressive restructuring and tighter expense management.

The company’s focus remains on reaching operating cash flow breakeven by the second half of 2026. This objective is supported by a 73% gross margin, which grew from 71% in the same period last year. CEO Dr. Phillip Chan attributed the margin expansion to manufacturing optimization and disciplined working capital management. While revenue in Germany fell 24% due to a leaner sales force, the company noted 16% growth in distributor and strategic partner territories, which partially offset the domestic decline.

Looking toward future expansion, the company identified four primary value drivers. Beyond achieving cash flow stability, CytoSorbents is prioritizing the growth of its core business and seeking FDA approval for its DrugSorb-ATR system. The device, designed to remove blood thinners during cardiac surgery, represents a potential $500 million to $1 billion market opportunity in the U.S. and Canada. Management is currently preparing for two critical FDA pre-submission meetings in August to finalize testing protocols for a planned 2027 De Novo application. Additionally, the firm is exploring strategic alternatives for its HemoDefend-BGA blood filter technology, which aims to simplify blood inventory management.
