Hokuriku Gas Profit Dips Amid Rising Costs

Hokuriku Gas Co. reported a decline in net profit to 1.07 billion yen for the half-year ending September 30, down from 1.22 billion yen during the same period last year. Despite a marginal increase in total revenue, the Japanese utility struggled to maintain margins against rising operational pressure.

Revenue for the six-month period reached 27.76 billion yen, slightly outpacing the 27.53 billion yen recorded a year prior. However, this top-line growth failed to offset a contraction in profitability. Operating profit fell to 1.11 billion yen from 1.49 billion yen, while pretax profit dropped to 1.31 billion yen compared to 1.69 billion yen in the previous cycle.

Earnings per share mirrored the broader downward trend, settling at 228.52 yen from 263.00 yen. The company prepared these results in accordance with Japanese accounting standards, highlighting a challenging fiscal environment for the regional energy provider despite stable demand.
