Tennessee American Water Adds Capacity to Lookout Valley

A 750,000-gallon steel bowl now sits atop a 95-foot pedestal in Chattanooga, marking the completion of a major infrastructure hoist. This project doubles the water storage capacity for the Lookout Valley area, a critical upgrade within a broader 2026 capital investment program exceeding $45 million for the utility.

The construction process involved assembling the welded steel tank on the ground before a crane hoisted the structure onto its concrete base. Once operational, the tank will provide increased redundancy and flexibility for the Citico distribution system, which serves Chattanooga, East Ridge, Lookout Mountain, Red Bank, and parts of northwest Georgia. The new installation sits adjacent to an existing tank of identical capacity, reinforcing the network’s reliance on gravity-fed delivery.

Grant Evitts, President of Tennessee American Water, noted that the project bolsters system resilience and improves the utility's capacity to manage peak demand and emergency responses. This expansion is part of a wider effort by the company to modernize aging utility assets. Landmark Structures served as the contractor for the hoist, executing the technical lift after finishing coating and construction work on the ground.
