While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Scripps characterized the sale as the most effective path for the network’s future growth. The company originally relaunched Court TV in May 2019 after securing the intellectual property and library rights from Turner Broadcasting, positioning it as a multi-platform destination for live legal proceedings.
A New Hub for Trial Coverage
Law&Crime, which is owned by the creator-tech firm Jellysmack, plans to transform Court TV into its primary hub for trial content and analysis. By absorbing the network, Law&Crime expands its reach in the true-crime genre, leveraging Court TV's established brand equity and distribution footprint to anchor its legal programming.
The move follows a period of portfolio evaluation at Scripps. According to the company, offloading the niche network allows it to streamline operations while ensuring the brand continues under a parent company specifically focused on the legal and true-crime vertical.
