KPMG PRI Secures First ANAB Accreditation for Section 45Z Fuel Credits

KPMG Performance Registrar Inc. has become the first verification body accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board to certify fuel production data under the U.S. Section 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit. This milestone allows the firm to independently validate carbon-intensity metrics for producers seeking federal tax incentives.

The accreditation enables KPMG PRI to apply ISO 14065 standards to the verification of greenhouse gas emissions and fuel output volumes. Under the Section 45Z program, tax credits are calculated based on a fuel’s lifecycle emissions rate, creating a direct financial incentive for manufacturers to lower their carbon intensity. Producers must now provide rigorous, third-party verified documentation to satisfy program requirements for fuels sold through the end of 2029.

Tom Darling, Partner and Senior Vice President at KPMG PRI, noted that independent certification provides the transparency necessary for market participants to trust emission claims. By working alongside KPMG U.S., the firm plans to assist domestic producers in navigating the documentation and scrutiny required by the tax credit process. KPMG PRI brings over a decade of experience in greenhouse gas validation to this new scope, having held ANAB accreditation for similar services since 2010.
