The stock retreated to $26.88, erasing recent gains and pushing the company’s year-to-date performance into flat territory. At the heart of the investor concern is the 12-month readout for total alpha-1 antitrypsin levels, which dipped to a range of 13.5 uM to 14.4 uM. This decline from the 16.1 uM recorded at the nine-month mark proved underwhelming, as the therapy is designed to boost the liver-produced protein that the genetic condition depletes.
Evercore ISI analysts, headed by Cory Kasimov, noted that while the latest findings do not represent a clinical regression, they lack the momentum required to excite the market. Despite the lukewarm data, the company reported that 41% of participants experienced only mild-to-moderate infusion-related reactions. Looking ahead, Beam intends to leverage feedback from the Food and Drug Administration to pursue an accelerated approval pathway. To bolster its future biologics license application, the firm is preparing to enroll an additional 50 patients.
