The randomized, open-label study compared the efficacy of Tam-Peli against topotecan in 451 patients who had experienced relapse after initial therapy. At a median follow-up of 9.4 months, participants receiving the novel conjugate achieved a median overall survival of 13.3 months, significantly outpacing the 9.4 months observed in the control group.

Beyond survival metrics, the drug demonstrated clear advantages in disease control. Median progression-free survival reached 7.4 months for the Tam-Peli cohort, compared to 2.8 months for those on topotecan. Furthermore, the objective response rate hit 59.1%, dwarfing the 9.7% reported for the standard-of-care arm. These benefits remained consistent across high-risk subgroups, including patients with liver or brain metastases.

Safety data indicated a more favorable profile for the new treatment, with 46.4% of patients experiencing grade 3 or higher adverse events, compared to 74.7% in the topotecan group. Professor Li Zhang of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center noted that the manageable toxicity and clinical efficacy could effectively reshape the treatment landscape for patients facing limited options after first-line immunotherapy and chemotherapy.
