The transaction, expected to close before the end of the year, will yield roughly $5.2 billion in net proceeds for the bank. Finance chief Mike Maguire confirmed at the Barclays Global Financial Services Conference that the company is operating with increased urgency to finalize its strategic evaluation. This sale follows the bank's decision earlier this quarter to discontinue marine and recreational vehicle lending while scaling back originations in other consumer units.
To manage the capital impact of the divestiture, Truist plans to reposition its securities portfolio. RBC analyst Gerard Cassidy noted that these measures are part of a broader shift toward a more robust deposit-gathering strategy. Further divestitures remain likely as the bank continues to prune non-core segments to boost long-term growth.
