Gold and Silver Recover as Treasury Yields and Oil Prices Retreat

A modest pullback in Treasury yields and a cooling in crude oil prices provided a tactical lift for precious metals on Thursday, helping gold and silver stage a rebound following the Federal Reserve’s decision to raise interest rates by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75% to 4.00%.

Gold and Silver Recover as Treasury Yields and Oil Prices Retreat

The market is currently digesting Chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish outlook, which emphasizes that persistent inflation and a robust labor market may necessitate further tightening. Despite the Fed’s aggressive stance, the immediate pressure on precious metals eased as the two-year Treasury yield slipped to 4.72% and the 10-year yield held near 5.00%. This shift allowed for a short-covering bounce, though analysts maintain that these gains represent tactical relief rather than a confirmed trend reversal.

Geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to provide a floor for prices, even as oil markets focus on the restoration of Gulf infrastructure. Brent crude retreated to $103.48 a barrel, while U.S. crude traded at $100.65. For gold to sustain its momentum, it must clear the $4,354 resistance level, with a move beyond $4,403 required to improve the long-term technical setup. Similarly, silver bulls are looking to reclaim the $65.28 mark to solidify a stronger recovery. Given that the Fed remains strictly data-dependent, the metals complex remains highly sensitive to upcoming inflation data and labor-market prints.
