Gold Holds Near $4,336 as Oil Prices Soften on Hormuz Diplomacy

Diplomatic signals regarding the Strait of Hormuz provided a temporary reprieve for energy markets on Tuesday, pushing Brent crude below $100 a barrel. While the cooling oil prices offer a buffer for gold, the metal remains constrained by a strengthening U.S. dollar and lingering hawkish sentiment from the Federal Reserve.

Gold Holds Near $4,336 as Oil Prices Soften on Hormuz Diplomacy

Spot gold is trading at $4,336.50 an ounce, a marginal 0.15% decline as markets digest the latest geopolitical updates. Reports suggesting Iran may reopen the Strait of Hormuz, provided the U.S. eases military pressure, have tempered the inflation impulse that previously fueled defensive buying. Despite this, gold struggles to break above the $4,358.25 resistance level, caught between falling energy costs and the persistent threat of further rate hikes.

Investors remain focused on the trajectory of the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy following last week’s rate increase. Although the 10-year Treasury yield has retreated to 4.93%, central bank officials continue to emphasize that energy-driven supply shocks could keep inflation elevated. This stance keeps the front end of the yield curve defensive, preventing a significant breakout for bullion. Market participants are now looking toward upcoming U.S. economic indicators, including S&P Global flash PMIs and manufacturing surveys, for further clarity on rate expectations.

Technically, the market remains in a consolidation phase. Bulls are aiming to reclaim $4,358.25, while bears eye a break below the $4,333.11 support level. Silver mirrors this cautious sentiment, trading at $65.73 an ounce. With the broader market environment remaining selective, metals are currently tethered to the interplay between crude oil volatility and the strength of the greenback.
