The new product, Bertolli Canola + Olive Oil, contains 85% canola oil and 15% olive oil. By maintaining the neutral flavor and high-heat tolerance of traditional canola, the company intends to lower the barrier to entry for consumers who are accustomed to more conventional cooking oils. According to Maca Garau, Vice President of Marketing for North America and LATAM at Deoleo, the strategy is to provide a familiar starting point for those intimidated by pure olive oil.
Beyond flavor, the blend is marketed for its nutritional content, including omega-3 ALA and vitamin E. The product is currently available at Kroger stores nationwide and on Amazon, offered in 25.36 fl. oz. and 50.72 fl. oz. bottles with prices starting at $6.99. Deoleo CEO Thierry Moyroud stated that the move is part of a broader effort to expand the category by making the benefits of olive oil more accessible to the average home kitchen.
