Kazakhstan Debuts Starlink Direct to Cell Connectivity

Kazakhstan has become the first Central Asian nation to deploy Starlink’s Direct to Cell technology, bypassing the need for terrestrial towers. The service, launched via a partnership between the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Beeline Kazakhstan, allows standard smartphones to transmit data directly from orbit in remote regions.

This rollout stems from bilateral agreements finalized during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s 2025 visit to the United States. According to Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the country has transitioned from successful field testing to active user availability. The system enables messaging and select app access in areas previously hindered by geography or damaged infrastructure.

Beeline Kazakhstan is offering the satellite service at no cost during an initial promotional period. For a country with vast, sparsely populated expanses, this infrastructure serves as a critical bridge for connectivity. Bulat Utemuratov, investor at Verny Capital Group, noted that the project aims to eliminate distance as a barrier to digital participation, framing the satellite integration as a long-term investment in the nation’s competitiveness.
