According to the World Gold Council, year-to-date purchases have reached 170 tonnes. The People’s Bank of China led the monthly intake with a 20-tonne addition, marking its 22nd consecutive month of buying and bringing its total holdings to approximately 2,387 tonnes. Poland followed with 8 tonnes, inching closer to its stated 700-tonne target, while the Central Bank of Uzbekistan also added 8 tonnes, now holding 439 tonnes of the precious metal.
Other notable activity included the National Bank of Kazakhstan, which added 7 tonnes, and the Czech National Bank, which extended its purchasing streak to 42 months with a 2-tonne acquisition. After a period of net sales earlier in the year, the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey returned to the market with a 3-tonne purchase. Conversely, the Central Bank of Russia continued its recent trend of liquidation, selling 6 tonnes, while the Central Bank of Jordan offloaded 3 tonnes.
Beyond raw accumulation, strategic repositioning remains a priority. De Nederlandsche Bank recently transferred 86 tonnes of gold from New York and Ottawa to London, a move designed to enhance the liquidity and tradability of its reserves, mirroring similar logistical efforts conducted by the Banque de France last year.
