The Via Verde initiative spans several key Italian regions, including Lombardy, Abruzzo, and Campania. Each of the 20 planned plants is designed to process between 60,000 and 100,000 tonnes of agricultural waste annually, converting organic matter into sustainable energy. Once fully operational, the platform is projected to supply approximately 1 TWh of biomethane per year—a volume sufficient to meet the annual gas requirements of roughly 60,000 households.
Andreas F. Brandt, a partner at CIP, noted that the platform provides a strategic foothold as Italy works toward its national 2030 biomethane targets. By combining local expertise with the fund's bioenergy infrastructure experience, the firm intends to accelerate domestic production and strengthen the country's energy independence. The project capitalizes on current policy support mechanisms to establish an early, large-scale presence in what the firm describes as one of Europe’s most promising markets for renewable gas.
