Ghirardelli Expands Into Packaged Cookie Market

After nearly 175 years of focusing on premium confectionery, San Leandro-based Ghirardelli is moving into the snack aisle. The company announced today the debut of its Crispy Cookies line, leveraging its long-standing reputation for chocolate craftsmanship to compete in the everyday cookie category with two initial varieties.

The new product line features Classic Chocolate Chip and Double Chocolate options, both packaged in 6.3-ounce boxes containing 10 cookies each. According to Bobby Oliver, Vice President and Head of Marketing, the expansion aims to integrate the brand’s signature chocolate quality into a more frequent, accessible snacking format. The Classic variety utilizes chocolate chips as its primary ingredient, while the Double Chocolate version incorporates cocoa powder into the dough alongside dark chocolate chips.

This strategic pivot represents a significant growth milestone for the century-old manufacturer. Consumers can purchase the cookies through the company’s website immediately, with retail distribution at Kroger and Walmart scheduled for October 11 and October 24, respectively. A wider national rollout across additional retail partners is slated for January 2027.
