FirstLight Expands Fiber Backbone to Western Pennsylvania Site

To accelerate the deployment of hyperscale data centers, FirstLight has extended its high-capacity fiber network directly to a new site in western Pennsylvania. By leveraging an existing 3,200-mile regional corridor, the company bypassed lengthy construction timelines, offering operators immediate, redundant connectivity essential for mission-critical digital infrastructure.

The project required only 31 miles of new construction to integrate the location into FirstLight’s broader Northeast network, which spans over 20,000 route miles. This strategic extension allows hyperscale and neocloud operators to avoid the delays typically associated with long-haul fiber builds, providing them with immediate access to dark fiber, carrier-grade transport, and colocation services.

Lorenzo Leuzzi, Chief Revenue Officer at FirstLight, noted that the company’s existing density across the Northeast is designed specifically to support rapid site activation. Beyond speed, the site’s placement along the corridor enables the implementation of lateral paths and alternate routing. This physical diversity provides the high-level redundancy that hyperscale organizations now demand as a baseline for their infrastructure investments.
