Agentiq Raises $4 Million to Let Fans Invest in Athlete Careers

New York-based fintech startup Agentiq has secured $4 million in funding to launch a platform that allows fans to buy equity in professional athletes. Led by venture firm defy.vc, the initiative aims to shift the sports fan experience from passive consumption to long-term financial participation in an athlete's career journey.

The platform functions by offering fans indirect investment opportunities in athletes through SEC-qualified Delaware Series LLCs. Under these agreements, athletes receive non-debt capital and brand advisory services in exchange for a percentage of their future on-field income. Co-founder and CEO Zach Kurtz describes the model as an alternative to the entertainment-focused spending typical of sports betting apps and fantasy markets, which he argues provide no durable value to the consumer.

Agentiq’s initial roster features rising stars like Diamondbacks closer Justin Martinez and Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Esmerlyn Valdez. The company has already signed additional players, including Cardinals pitcher Hunter Dobbins, with plans to expand its catalog to more than 50 athletes within the coming year. By democratizing access to athlete-linked financial products—a space previously reserved for private equity firms—Agentiq intends to provide players with more transparent, flexible capital while giving fans a direct stake in the success of the individuals they follow.
