Applied Materials Raises Stake in Besi to 20 Percent

With an eye on the surging demand for AI-driven manufacturing, Applied Materials has finalized an accelerated share purchase agreement to secure a 20% stake in Dutch equipment maker BE Semiconductor Industries. The move deepens a strategic alliance that began four years ago and now sits at the heart of their shared scaling roadmap.

The transaction builds upon an earlier investment finalized in April 2025, cementing the relationship between the two industry heavyweights. Since their initial collaboration launched in 2020, the companies have synchronized their technical efforts to tackle the complexities of next-generation chip production. This partnership recently gained momentum when Besi signed on as an innovation partner for Applied Materials' EPIC Center, a facility dedicated to collaborative semiconductor research. By consolidating this ownership, Applied Materials gains tighter alignment with Besi’s specialized assembly and packaging technologies, which are increasingly critical for the advanced hardware powering modern artificial intelligence workloads.
