GM Pivots Lansing Delta Township Site for Hybrid Vehicle Production

General Motors is retooling its Lansing Delta Township facility to accommodate future hybrid electric-vehicle production. This shift marks a significant component of the automaker's broader $2 billion investment strategy across the Lansing region, aimed at modernizing domestic manufacturing capabilities as the industry navigates a complex transition toward electrification.

GM Pivots Lansing Delta Township Site for Hybrid Vehicle Production

The company is restructuring a domestic manufacturing conversion grant alongside the U.S. Energy Department to fund the site's transformation. This facility currently serves as the production hub for the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia. While specific timelines and vehicle nameplates remain under wraps, GM intends to release project milestones as launch dates approach.

This development follows a turbulent period for the automaker's Michigan operations. In July 2024, GM secured a $500 million grant initially earmarked for the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant, which subsequently faced planned layoffs disclosed in August under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. The redirected capital now bolsters the Delta Township site, reinforcing a long-term commitment to the region that includes a previously announced $1.25 billion investment in the Grand River facility.
