Shares of the company jumped 21% to 7.10 Canadian dollars in Tuesday morning trading, extending a rally that has seen the stock climb 82% over the last quarter. Under the agreed terms, investors will receive 7.80 Canadian dollars per share, a valuation that nearly doubles the company's price before the takeover battle erupted in August. Shareholders may choose to receive payment in cash, stock, or a mix of both.
Aurora’s board had spent months characterizing Curaleaf’s unsolicited advances as inadequate, particularly regarding the potential of its European medical cannabis division. The successful bid by Organigram is bolstered by a 100 million British pound private placement from cornerstone investor British American Tobacco and a 210 million Canadian dollar credit facility from ATB Financial. This financial backing secures the board's rejection of Curaleaf’s previous offers, which had been raised incrementally from 272 million to 324.2 million U.S. dollars before being dismissed.
