The system acts as a digital bridge between buyer accounts payable workflows and supplier billing infrastructure. Instead of convincing vendors to join a proprietary network, Melio's agents log into existing AR systems to execute payments according to the vendor's preferred method. Once the transaction completes, the AI automatically reconciles the payment by feeding structured remittance data directly into the supplier's books.
Early adoption suggests significant momentum for the technology. Melio reports the network has already processed over 30,000 payments, representing more than $100 million in annualized volume. Aharon Levine, the company's VP of Payments Strategy, noted that this approach shifts the industry away from the labor-intensive model of manual supplier enablement that has historically slowed digital adoption.
This launch scales Melio’s existing infrastructure, which currently handles over $30 billion in annual volume. By bypassing the need for new portal registrations, the company seeks to capture the massive segment of small businesses that remain tethered to manual processes. As a subsidiary of Xero, Melio continues to integrate its payment tools into a wider ecosystem, positioning these autonomous agents as a core utility for its nearly 100,000 business clients and various financial institution partners.
