Gordon Charles MacLean returns to Chicago for debut of The Awake Code

After three decades of navigating the volatile shifts of the commercial real estate market and his own military background, Gordon Charles MacLean is returning to Chicago on July 7 to launch his debut book, The Awake Code: 39 Rules for Living A Fully Engaged Life, at the Trump International Hotel & Tower.

The book serves as a distillation of MacLean’s career, which spans over 200 real estate transactions and includes his time as a military reconnaissance systems specialist with the U.S. Air Force’s 9th Reconnaissance Wing. He began documenting these principles following the 2009 financial crisis, a period during which he lost much of what he had built. He describes the work not as motivational theory, but as a survival manual born from the pressure of rebuilding his professional and personal life from the ground up.

Structured around 39 distinct rules, the text aims to provide actionable strategies for entrepreneurs and veterans seeking resilience. The launch event will feature a performance by pianist ELEW and a Q&A session. MacLean has committed to donating all proceeds from books sold at the event to K9s For Warriors, an organization that provides service dogs to veterans dealing with the invisible wounds of war. Admission is complimentary with registration, marking a full-circle moment for the author in the city where he earned his CCIM designation and forged the professional relationships that defined his early career.
