Two Students Sue Conejo Valley Unified Over Alleged Sexual Assaults

Two former Westlake High School students filed lawsuits in Ventura County Superior Court, accusing the Conejo Valley Unified School District of failing to protect them from sexual assault. The complaints allege that administrators ignored reports of abuse, subjected victims to hostile Title IX inquiries, and allowed predators to remain on campus.

The plaintiffs, identified as Jane Roe and Jane Doe, claim a male peer assaulted them on separate occasions. According to the court filings, Roe was assaulted in a teacher lounge in January 2023. When she later disclosed the incident, she alleges the district’s response was retraumatizing rather than supportive. Doe’s complaint details a pattern of harassment and blackmail that continued even after she notified school officials, ultimately forcing her to transfer to a different school for her safety.

Attorney Christa Ramey, representing both students, stated that the district repeatedly placed the burden on victims rather than conducting proper investigations. These legal actions follow mounting public pressure regarding how Westlake High manages reports of sexual misconduct. The lawsuits name the district alongside administrators J. Branham, K. Michaud, and J. Ibrahim, seeking accountability for what the plaintiffs describe as a systemic failure to believe and protect students.
