The ceremony honored a student body that frequently navigated significant personal and academic obstacles to reach this milestone. Paul DeAngelis, president of the school's Board of Directors, delivered the commencement address, emphasizing the necessity of perseverance. During the event, one graduate was awarded a $1,250 scholarship from Graduation Alliance to facilitate their transition into higher education or vocational training.

Achieve Detroit operates as a fully online, asynchronous institution designed to accommodate students who require alternative educational pathways. By providing laptops, Wi-Fi connectivity, and personalized coaching, the academy aims to bridge gaps for students across Michigan. Principal Shannon Van Lente noted that the diplomas serve as tangible evidence of the resilience required to overcome previous barriers. Dr. Shawn Smith, CEO of Graduation Alliance, stated that the partnership with the Detroit Public Schools Community District reflects a broader commitment to expanding personalized learning options for students aged 15 to 22.
